Beauty through the decades…

This week’s Stylist magazine featured a great article about the film version of David Nicholl’s bestseller One Day, which is being released later this month. Starring the absolutely gorgeous Anne Hathaway and the truly scrumptious Jim Sturgess, as the book was a huge success, the film has a lot to live up too.  Not only that, but somehow both actors have to switch from looking like students to looking middle aged.

Obviously, a lot of work will have gone into the costumes, hair styles and the make-up. So, this week I thought I would take a look at the last few decades and the key styles and icons of those eras. I have also highlighted a couple of key products to help you get these looks – whether it’s fancy dress or to achieve looks that have come back in fashion.

80s

Back in the 80s, bigger was better. It was all about big hair, futuristic make-up and as much colour as possible. With icons such as Madonna, Annie Lennox and Blondie there was definitely a feeling of creating a ‘statement’ look – showing people that you ‘don’t give a damn.

Get the look:

–       For the crazy yet controlled hair, make sure you use WEN® Texture Balm. Rub a small amount into the palms of your hands and do your worst! Not only will this give you volume but you can be safe in the knowledge that WEN® has no nasty products that will pollute your hair

90s

Come the 90s, it appeared that the ladies had had enough of the statement make-up and crazy styles of the previous decade and there was a push towards cleaner, more natural skin-toned make-up. And everyone wanted Rachel’s hair!

Get the look:

–       The Proactiv® Solution 4-piece kit will ensure you get the fresh-faced, clean look that was (and still is) the desired look of the ladies

–       Sheer Cover® mineral foundations can be used to make sure you have the natural/neutral tones giving you flawless skin

–       We cannot promise Rachel’s hair, but WEN® cleansing conditioner is a great natural alternative to most shampoos and conditioners on the market and really help to make your hair sheen, moisturised and manageable

00s

2000 arrived and the world didn’t end, surprisingly. This was a decade where literally anything seemed to go – old looks started to be recycled and new looks came in. There was no staple look of the noughties. A huge trend toward anti-aging arrived though with cosmetic surgery becoming more and more popular.

Get the (younger) look:

–       Don’t let wrinkles get the better of you and start looking after your skin with Cindy Crawford’s age maintenance skin care range – Meaningful Beauty®. With gorgeous, non offensive ingredients, you may end up looking as good as Cindy by the time the big 4 0 arrives
